Once upon a blue moon, reciprocal linking was the way to go in order for your web site to get a good search engine position. But that was then.
Reciprocal links have lost their value in most search engines, especially Google which dislikes link farms. So forget about putting up a link directory.
Take my site, bizzybeesadvertiser.com as an example. All my main pages have a Google 2 PR except my link exchange page which has a 0 PR. That says a lot about this strategy. It no longer works.
Above all search engines, we have to admit that Google reigns supreme. So how do we get into Google's good graces? We know that Google counts the links pointing to a site. The number of links tells Google how popular a site is. The more popular a site is the higher Google ranks that site.
The new linking strategy now being implemented by seo marketing gurus, is one-way linking. Another site with a higher PR links to your site but you don't link back. This linking strategy has sprouted a new industry in the net. High PR sites sell one-way links. But this strategy can become so expensive.
There is a more affordable way ...
You write an article. Include your resource box, where you put a short description about you and a link to your site. You then submit this to article directories where ezine publishers go to search for new articles to publish in their ezines.
Now you're thinking, "I can't write."
Then hire a ghost writer. A family member or a friend who has good writing skills. Do the research yourself then let your friend compose the article from the material you've compiled. Failing that, google it. Do a search on the net for a writer you can hire at low rates. You will get back more than what you paid for when you see the sites that link back to you because of that one article. Make sure though that the article has a lot of new things to say. Make it relevant and interesting; and most of all easy to read and understand.
