Author: Alien
Gone is the belief that fats make you fat. Fat can make you thin too. Omega 3, an EFA, found in cold water fish, green-spinach, broccoli and sprouts helps with weight loss. Fat is an important part of a healthy diet. Increasing evidences gives fats thumbs up for reducing risk of heart attack and stroke. They also help with our sugar and insulin metabolism. Fats, good one, make foods taste better. They help us enjoy the journey to a healthier lifestyle. Fats are not created equal. There are good fats and bad fats.

Good Fats versus Bad Fats

Good fats include monounsaturated fats found in olive and canola oils, peanuts and other nuts, peanut butter, and avocados. They lower the levels of LDL the bad cholesterol that clogs our artery walls, while maintaining levels of "good" HDL cholesterol, which carries cholesterol from artery walls and delivers it to the liver for disposal. Meanwhile, its cousin found in vegetable oils, poly-unsaturated fats lower the levels of bad and good cholesterol alike.

Bad Fats

Animal fats-butter, lard, meat, palm and coconut oils are the villains for out health. Then there are trans fats like margarines, used for baking. They interfere with normal metabolism of EFAs

Omegas

Omega 3 and 6 constitute EFAs, which our body should derive from diet.

Omegas-3

Sources include cold water fish, salmon, herring, trout, codliveroil and greens spinach, cabbage, sprouts.

Omega-6

Vegetable oils, nuts, walnuts, peanuts, cashew. Our diet are heavily loaded with Omega 6. Perhaps this imbalance is responsible for degenerative diseases. To offset this imbalance.

Avoid corn, safflower, soy and sunflower oils.

Go nuts over nuts-walnuts, cashew. Eat more fish, especially salmon and other deepwater varieties.

Low fat myth

Low fat is not less on calories. Annihilating a bag of chips or cookies, because it is low fat will make your waist line pay for it. Food manufactures when creating low fat boost the flavor with sugar, sodium or other additives to create a tasty product. The very fact that it is processed and fried will make it bad anyway's.
The moral of the fat story is that eat right fats and stay healthy.
